Unlike a traditional museum where visitors walk around and view various exhibits, each Mobile Museum of Tolerance contains seating for up to 30 visitors who experience a series of immersive, interactive educational modules on a range of subjects. This includes modules on the Holocaust, the Civil Rights Movement, online hate, and others. New modules are being added all the time.
When requesting a visit from a Mobile Museum of Tolerance, you can book all of our modules or only the modules you want. For a full list of modules currently available, click here. Each self-contained module is about 45 minutes long.
Mobile Museums of Tolerance currently serve California, Florida, Illinois & New York. New states are on the way. To request a Mobile Museums of Tolerance in your state, please fill out the form below.
Thanks to grants and generous donors, there is no cost to have the MMOT come to your school.
The Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, founded in 1993, uses the story of the Holocaust to teach larger lessons of tolerance. However, not everyone can visit Los Angeles, so the Mobile Museums of Tolerance were launched to bring engaging, educational lessons of tolerance directly to your community.
Depending on which modules you select, the Mobile Museums of Tolerance are appropriate for grades 5 and up.
Typically, the MMOT will arrive the afternoon or evening before the scheduled visit to load in and set up. If overnight parking is unavailable, the MMOT will arrive 2.5 hours ahead of the first scheduled workshop. The specific arrival time will be provided during the booking process with the program coordinator. Our workshop educator will arrive 1 hour before the first workshop begins, check in with the onsite contact, and prepare for the requested program(s).
The MMOT requires a designated parking area of 25 ft x 50 ft (the equivalent of 6 parking spaces) to park the bus and allow students and other guests to flow on and off safely. Our logistics team will coordinate parking options for the MMOT visit during the booking process. The MMOT must park on level ground.
Each workshop is approximately 45-50 minutes long. We frequently tailor the length of each session to your school’s individual needs or class schedule. If you would like to shorten the workshop length, please specify your request with our program coordinator.
A skilled and highly trained MMOT educator will travel to your location and lead all workshops onboard the MMOT.
The MMOT can accommodate up to 30 individuals per workshop and up to six workshops per day. Please note that six workshops are the daily maximum. However, if the MMOT is scheduled to visit several locations within a school district during a single visit, hours of operation and the number of available workshops may be reduced. If the MMOT is requested for multiple days at a single location, overnight parking permission must be arranged. This is subject to MMOT availability.
After each workshop, the educator will help guide the students off the MMOT and an onsite staff member will direct students back to their classroom.
